The IUI Process with Donor Sperm
Consultation
During your first consultation, we will take a detailed history, discuss your treatment plan, confirm costs, success rates, and the process of selecting sperm.
You’ll also learn whether to undergo a stimulated or natural cycle.
Counselling
Professional counselling is provided to help you explore the implicaitons of the treatment including emotional aspects of using donor sperm.
Investigations
We help you complete the necessary HFEA forms and arrange infection screening blood tests (HIV, Hep B, Hep C).
Additional tests such as CMV status (past infection with Cytomegalo virus) and blood group may also be recommended to aid sperm selection.
We like to confirm that the Fallopian tubes are patent (open) before starting your IUI (DI) cycle.
Choosing Donor Sperm
We have a list of sperm banks and you can visit their websites and select the sperm right for you. We are always there to help you with any technical advice. If you choose a bank we haven’t worked with before, we can contact them and complete the necessary formalities. We ensure that the sperm is safely delivered to our clinic before the start of your treatment cycle.
Cycle Start and IUI
We can treat you using a natural cycle or use tablets like Letrozole or Clomid to reliably grow a follicle in your ovary. The growth of the follicle is monitored using ultra-sound scans. We trigger ovulation once the follicle is of the right size.
Actual IUI
The procedure is so simple and painless that it does not need any sedation. If you do need sedation for any reason, we can arrange that. On the day of the IUI, the donor sperm is prepared and inseminated into your uterus
