HyCoSy Test

A HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo Contrast Sonography) test is a safe, minimally invasive procedure to check if your Fallopian tubes are open. It’s a modern test which uses Sonography and is a proven alternative to the traditional X-ray-based HSG test.

How is a HyCoSy Test Done?

You don’t need anaesthesia / sedation for the test.

A thin catheter is inserted through the cervix, and a saline solution may be used to check for polyps or fibroids in the uterus (an “aqua scan”).

Then, a “sono-contrast” agent is injected, and a transvaginal ultrasound tracks its flow through the fallopian tubes.

The whole procedure takes around 20 minutes and is no worse than period pains and no more uncomfortable than a cervical smear.

    Preparing for Your HyCoSy Test

The test is done shortly after your period, before ovulation, to avoid any risk to a chance early pregnancy.

We ask you take simple pain killers like Paracetemol or Ibuprofen an hour before the test.

We prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.

      What Do the Results Mean?

      • Open tubes: If the contrast flows freely, your fallopian tubes are open.
      • Blocked tubes: If the flow is blocked, further treatment may be needed, such as IVF.
      •  The “aqua scan” also helps identify issues like polyps or fibroids in the uterus.
